Types of Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty can be performed for both cosmetic enhancement and functional correction. The types include:
Removing a nasal hump for a smoother profile.
Straightening the bridge to improve symmetry.
Reshaping the tip for a refined appearance.
Adjusting nostril size — increasing or decreasing based on facial balance.
Correcting post-injury deformities to restore natural shape.
Opening breathing passages to address functional issues.
Altering nose size — making it bigger or smaller for facial harmony.
What to Expect During Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty may be performed internally (inside the nose) or through a small external incision at the base of the nose, between the nostrils.
The procedure can be done under local or general anaesthesia, depending on the case’s complexity.
Your surgeon will carefully reshape the bone and cartilage beneath the skin.
For minor modifications, cartilage is often taken from inside the nose or ear.
For major structural changes, rib cartilage, implants, or bone grafts may be used.
Once reshaping is complete, the skin and tissues are repositioned, and the incisions are closed.
If there’s a deviated septum (bent nasal wall), the surgeon may correct it simultaneously to improve breathing and overall nasal function.
